WordPress 6: Major release update – block editor & bug fixes!

WordPress 6.0 - What's New!

WordPress 6.0 dropped this week, and we have just completed the rollout across our managed websites. With over 500 improvements to the Block Editor and  400 bug fixes, this important update will make managing the content of your site easier and more streamlined than ever before!

  • Most of the improvements are in the WordPress Block editor that was released in the last major release.New blocks, updated blocks, and smaller improvements like a better colour pallete. *If like our clients you’re running Elementor Pro or another page builder, this does not really change for you.
  • More than 400 bug fixes (WOW!). In WP 5.9, there were several small nuances & bugs that we had found workarounds for. but WordPress 6.0 promises to have most of those ironed out. Yay!

Reminder to update (properly!)

We’ve been using this platform for 15+ years and WordPress 6.0 is the most robust, customisable version yet. There are too many reasons to list why WP is the #1 CMS in the world, but being the most popular also makes it the most targeted by hackers.

Generally, its not recommended to have WordPress auto-update enabled, just in case a new release breaks your plugins! With major releases, the rule of thumb is to wait until there is a .1 version (eg, 6.1) which usually includes further bug fixes/patches and also gives plugin developers time to catch up with the new version. And always, always BACKUP your site beforehand!

But if you’re running a version of WordPress thats more than 6 months old and haven’t updated your password for yonkies, consider this your reminder to take a backup, update and test your site!
